91�鶹ӳ����ý and the Institute of Certified Records Managers (ICRM) have announced a partnership allowing graduates of  91�鶹ӳ����ý’s Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) and Master of Science in Information Management (MSIM) to apply for credit for Parts 2-4 or Parts 1-5 of the ICRM exam.  

The primary benefit of the partnership is to leverage the Records and Information Management (RIM)-focused content of the certificate program to facilitate graduates becoming Certified Records Analysts (CRAs) or Certified Records Managers (CRMs).

Students can complete their coursework online or in the classroom and must meet established qualifications for ICRM candidacy.

“91�鶹ӳ����ý is thrilled to partner with the ICRM to offer our students these unique opportunities,” said Dr. Todd Kleine, CRM, chief information officer  and School of Information Studies instructor at 91�鶹ӳ����ý. “I know this partnership will allow students the opportunity to gain a world-class classroom education, hone RIM skills through internship opportunities on and off campus, and obtain a globally recognized certification. It’s a win all around.”

“The ICRM is pleased to add 91�鶹ӳ����ý’s MLIS and MSIM programs to our academic partners and support the development of records and information management professionals through education and certification,” said Caroline Walters, ICRM president.

This partnership meets ICRM and 91�鶹ӳ����ý’s joint strategic goals of enhancing the overall RIM profession by supplying educated and credentialed professionals to fill demand for jobs and to advance related careers.

Graduates of the program are required to submit their transcripts at the time of application to the Institute. As part of the partnership agreement, graduates of 91�鶹ӳ����ý’s MLIS or MSIM programs must meet additional qualifications by providing proof of one year of work experience or by having completed a RIM-focused internship, externship or independent study entitled to at least three graduate hours. It is preferred that this be with the oversight of a faculty member who is a CRM or CRA in good standing.  At least one instructor or the program coordinator must be a certified records manager as a partnership condition.

The collaboration provides a further benefit by streamlining the certification maintenance requirements in order for existing CRMs and CRAs to receive credit for the courses they take in above-noted certificate programs through the pre-approval process.

91�鶹ӳ����ý’s American Library Association-accredited MLIS program prepares students for professional careers in library and information science, including in public, school, academic, and special libraries; archives and museums; nonprofit organizations; corporations; and other settings. The MSIM prepares students to navigate the full lifecycle of information management — from its planning and creation to its distribution, protection, and archiving — and master information systems knowledge in analysis, data, policy, and technology.

Founded in 1975, the Institute of Certified Records Managers is an international certifying organization of and for professional records managers.  The Institute confers four designations: the Certified Records Analyst; Certified Records Manager and two post- certification specialty designations, including the Certified Records Manager/Nuclear Specialist (CRA/CRM/NS) and the CRM/Federal Specialist.
